Importance of Patient Education in the Healthcare Universe

Doctelloo firmly advocates Patient Education as it is an important aspect in the Healthcare Ecosystem. Knowledge about one’s own health, specific illnesses, treatments, and expected result helps our patients become self-contained.

Patients who are more knowledgeable about their health are more likely to use self-management techniques, attend their follow-up appointments, and ask their doctors questions about their care.

Education from our perspective is more preventive in nature, as it helps foresee potential problems and prepares the person ahead of time to deal with possible scenarios and present solution to those health problems

Educate àPrepare à Prevent à Change Attitude à Enforce Practice

However, education has different meaning to different patients and following this up with timely counselling strengthens the reason for education, as some patients will be open to educational strategies, whereas others will need more pushing from their doctors.

HCP’s must follow the right strategies before issuing patient education materials, ensuring that the strategies employed are useful for the individual patient.

How can we Educate the Patient?

There are many ways to deliver patient education. Examples include one-on-one teaching, demonstrations, and analogies or word pictures to explain concepts.

You can also use one or more of the following teaching tools:

  • Brochures or other printed materials
  • Podcasts
  • YouTube videos
  • Videos or DVDs
  • PowerPoint presentations
  • Posters or charts
  • Models or props
  • Group classes
  • Trained peer educators

However, we will focus on the Digital Way to Educate the Patients. A website or a Mobile app which gives the patient easy access to healthcare educational material on the go would work hand in hand with the HCPs.
